Namibia is Home to The Best Bird Hunting Africa has to Offer
At Frontier Safaris Namibia, we offer the ultimate add on or premier wing shooting package. Adding bird hunting onto your Leopard or Plains game Bow hunting safari has never been this easy. Bird hunting is great for the whole family and guarantees you an action packed day. Namibia has a large variety of huntable game bird species that can be hunted during Namibias bird hunting season (May through the end of November).
Frontier Safaris Namibia is home to some of the world’s finest sporting birds such as three sandgrouse species: Namaqua Sandgrouse, Doublebanded Sandgrouse, and our family named Burchell Sandgrouse, as well as some splendorous dove shooting home to: Laughing Doves and Cape Turtle Doves, in addition to our personal favorite, the Helmeted Guineafowl. Redbilled Francolin, Kurrichane Button Quail, and Harlequin Quail are also available. No doubt you will be impressed with the sheer speed and agility our birds aquire as well as the unrivaled number of worthy African game birds our ranch is home to.
Wing Shooting Guinea-fowl, Quail, and Francolin in Namibia
Frontier Safaris Namibia is home to a thick Mopani covered rolling hills topography, but we also have a few open grass plains. This is where our bigger game birds are found, such as Guinea-Fowl and Francolin. The most common method of hunting our larger game birds are driven hunts or flush hunting them in the open grass plains. While the larger game birds such as Guinea-Fowl and Francolin are resident to the ranch, Quail are migratory birds and dependent on good rains. They follow Namibias rain paternities and are found in greater number during seasons with heavy rain. Quail are flush hunted, providing our clients with a high speed exhilarating shoot.
Hunt Namibian Sandgrouse
Frontier Safaris Namibia is home to all three native Sandgrouse species: Burchell’s Sandgrouse, Namaqua Sandgrouse, Double Banded Sandgrouse. These birds can be found in large flocks visiting the watering holes in the early morning and late evening. Taking shots at these agile birds as they approach the water at high speed can be challenging but even an average shot shouldn’t have a problem filling his daily limit.
Hunting Doves in Namibia
Namibia is home to a great number of doves and Frontier Safaris Namibia has a large population of two huntable species, the Cape Turtle dove and the African Laughing Dove. While they are fast, it is their unpredictable flying pattern that makes them one of the most difficult African game birds to bag. Doves are hunted around watering holes in the early mornings, afternoon, and again in the evenings providing clients with ample opportunities.
Additional Bird Hunting Info
At Frontier Safaris Namibia, we offer wing shooting as an add on and premier package for all our clients. Our wing shooting opportunities runs from May through the end of October. We are fortunate enough to have adequate numbers of birds that bird hunting late in the season is just as good as early season. Our wing shooting fee is additional to your daily rate and includes your 25 birds/day camp limit. Additional birds can be purchased according to the price list. Each bird specie has a season and daily limit. Only two birds of each species may be exported per client, per safari. You are welcome to bring your own shotguns or use our shotguns free of charge.
